The FAA lists the RCCT Air Force/ Army/Navy/Coast Guard Version among its approved computerized color-vision tests for FAA medical-certification purposes.
Results are measured for red, green, and blue cone contrast in each eye.

Some aviation and safety-sensitive roles require more specific color-vision information than a familiar plate screening provides. The Rabin Cone Contrast Test measures how well each eye distinguishes red, green, and blue contrast at progressively lower levels.
The result is a quantitative report that can support an FAA medical-certification evaluation or an occupational review. The test does not itself grant a medical certificate, determine job eligibility, or guarantee a passing result.
Pilots and first-time FAA medical applicants who need an approved computerized color-vision screening test
Applicants or professionals in military, law enforcement, fire/rescue, maritime, transportation, electrical, and other color-dependent fields
Patients referred by an AME, physician, recruiter, employer, or occupational-health team
Patients whose optometrist recommends cone-contrast testing for a medically necessary evaluation
Not sure whether this is the test your organization needs?
Call 971-307-EYES (971-307-3937) before booking and tell us the name of the requesting agency or form.
Tell our team that you need the Rabin Cone Contrast Test and whether you were referred by an AME or occupational program. We will confirm your appointment and preparation details.
You will identify the orientation of Landolt C symbols while contrast changes. Each eye is tested separately. The test itself takes approximately 90 seconds per eye, although check-in, instructions, retesting when indicated, and report preparation make the full visit longer.
We provide a PDF report with the recorded results. With your authorization, it can be shared with your AME or referring professional according to the clinic's release process.
FOR PILOTS AND AME REFERRALS

Eye Focus Northwest administers the test and provides results. The FAA and the applicant’s Aviation Medical Examiner determine how results are used in the medical-certification process. Listing of the test by the FAA is not certification or endorsement of Eye Focus Northwest or Mark J. Fast, OD. FAA guidance can change; your AME should rely on the current FAA source.

Clear color discrimination can be important wherever signals, wiring, maps, indicators, warning lights, or color-coded materials affect safety. The RCCT provides separate red, green, and blue cone-contrast scores for each eye and may be useful when a referring organization accepts quantitative computerized testing.
Requirements differ among employers, military branches, licensing bodies, and agencies. Confirm that the RCCT and the report format meet your organization’s current requirements before your appointment. Eye Focus Northwest does not decide employment, enlistment, licensing, or fitness-for-duty eligibility.
Eye Focus Northwest provides patient-centered optometric care and specialized testing in Tigard. Our doctors and clinical team will explain the process, administer the test under controlled conditions, and provide clear documentation of the results.
